RX. SCALED.
MASTERS.

Four prescriptions. One purpose: get the right training effect for the athlete in front of the workout. Understand your options, protect the intended stimulus, and train with confidence.

01 / THE FOUNDATION

The label isn't
the achievement.

RX tells you that a specific version was performed as written. Scaled 1 and Scaled 2 are other published workout prescriptions. Masters is an age-related prescription category when one is provided. None is a label for your value, effort or potential.

01

Understand the stimulus

Is the goal sustained breathing, repeatable gymnastics, strength work, short intervals or something else? Match the purpose, not just the movement name.

02

Check today's capacity

Can you perform the required skills and loads safely, consistently and at a pace that makes sense? Yesterday's RX is not a lifetime commitment.

03

Follow the actual prescription

The real TrainHeroic session controls the exact movements, reps, sets, loading, standards and scoring. This page teaches the choice—it does not create new workouts.

SCALING IS A TRAINING DECISION. NOT A DEMOTION.
02 / PRESCRIPTION EXPLORER

Know what each
version means.

Select an option to see what it communicates—and what it does not automatically mean.

01 / FOUR VERSIONSRX — As prescribed

Completing the published RX movements, repetitions, loads and applicable standards as written.

GOOD FIT TO CONSIDER WHEN

Your current skills, load control, movement quality and pacing support the intended stimulus throughout the workout.

IT DOES NOT MEAN

You must always choose RX—or that finishing RX is automatically a better training session than doing a suitable scaled version.

Trainer's rule

Being capable of one repetition does not automatically mean RX is the right choice for every round.

Masters eligibility is not established here. The program's approved workout and any applicable division rules determine Masters availability, age criteria and standards. Masters should not be assumed to mean “easier,” or to be interchangeable with a scaled tier.
03 / YOUR WORKOUT DECISION CHECK

Ask the right
four questions.

Answer honestly for today's session. This is a coaching conversation starter, not an algorithm that assigns you to a tier. It cannot evaluate injury, disability or technique remotely.

01 Can I repeat the movements with control?

Think about quality across the whole workout, not a single best attempt.

02 Can I use the prescribed loads safely?

Technique, readiness, and consistency matter more than proving a number.

03 Does this version fit the intended pace?

If the goal is repeated movement, being stuck at one difficult rep can change the entire stimulus.

04 Am I appropriately recovered and ready today?

Consider sleep, fatigue, soreness, discomfort and any limitations that affect safe movement.

04 / REAL-WORLD DECISIONS

Different athlete.
Same standard of effort.

Select a situation to see the question behind a smart prescription choice. These scenarios are educational and do not define universal RX, Scaled, Masters or adaptive standards.

SCENARIO 01 / GETTING STARTED

Your first day isn't a test of worth.

A new athlete understands the movement but can't repeat it smoothly at the published RX load and pace.

BEST QUESTION TO ASK

Which published Scaled option lets me complete quality repetitions while meeting the day's intended effort?

Use the actual TrainHeroic version and seek coaching if movement control is uncertain.

TRAINING PRESCRIPTION

Ability, equipment and time are different questions.

Scaled 1 / Scaled 2 concern the workout version. An equipment substitution replaces an unavailable implement. An individual movement modification addresses skill or access. An approved 45–60 minute modified session changes the full-session structure when provided. They are not interchangeable.

ADAPTIVE PARTICIPATION

Individualize access. Keep expectations clear.

Wheelchair athletes and other adaptive athletes can have dramatically different strength, trunk control, transfer ability, equipment needs and training histories. Involve the athlete in selecting a safe route to the intended stimulus. Never assume a single tier or substitute based on disability alone.

05 / TRAINING VS. COMPETITION

RX is a prescription.
Not a status symbol.

In full Sent Project training

Follow the specific published RX, Scaled 1, Scaled 2 or Masters variant where one is available. A smart version preserves the day's goal while allowing quality movement and honest scores. Athletes may change versions from day to day.

At a CrossFit competition

Event organizers set the applicable divisions, eligibility, permitted substitutions, movement standards and scoring. A training modification does not automatically satisfy a competition's rules. Read the actual event rulebook before entering or submitting a score.

Pause for pain or unsafe movement. This page is not individual medical or rehabilitation advice. If movement causes pain, new neurological symptoms or safety concerns, stop that movement and seek a qualified assessment when appropriate.

⌕
Showing 18 questions
What does RX actually mean?

RX means that you completed the particular RX version as prescribed, including the applicable movements, loading, repetitions and standards. It describes that workout performance, not your worth as an athlete.

Is Scaled 1 always the same percentage of RX?

No. There is no universal Scaled 1 loading percentage or movement substitution. Use the exact approved Scaled 1 work shown for the day in TrainHeroic.

Is Scaled 2 only for beginners?

No. It is another published prescription that athletes may select when appropriate to their movement abilities, readiness and the session objective. Experience alone does not determine today's version.

What does Masters mean? What age qualifies?

Masters refers to an age-related category when a version is offered. This guide does not establish a full Sent Project Masters minimum age or universal standards. Follow the approved program or particular event's eligibility rules.

Can a Masters athlete also need movement modifications?

Yes. Masters is not a guarantee that every movement is appropriate for every athlete. Individual limitations, equipment and skill may still require an approved modification or coaching guidance.

Should I choose RX if I can do a single muscle-up?

Not automatically. Look at how many repetitions you need to repeat, how long transitions take, movement quality and the desired intensity. One successful repetition may not support the entire intended stimulus.

Can I do RX today and Scaled 1 tomorrow?

Absolutely. Daily capacity and training objectives change. Selecting a suitable published version every day is a sign of good judgment, not inconsistency.

How do I choose between Scaled 1 and Scaled 2?

Compare the actual published movements, loads and expected stimulus against your current ability. Choose a version you can execute well; ask a coach when uncertain. Never assume fixed differences between tiers.

Does scaling mean my workout is less effective?

Not when it helps deliver the intended work. A different exercise or load can be more productive when the RX version would force long stalls, poor technique or an unsuitable pace.

What if I'm strong but new to gymnastics?

You may be ready for an RX barbell element but need a different gymnastics option. Follow the approved version or seek a coach-authorized individual modification rather than automatically combining pieces of separate tiers.

What if I'm fatigued after a hard week?

Read the current objective, consider recovery, and use the appropriate published prescription or ask about an approved adjustment. A lighter day may be an intelligent part of long-term progress.

Can wheelchair athletes participate?

Yes. Individualize movements and equipment based on the athlete's preferences, function, transfer requirements, shoulder and trunk capacity, and environment. A wheelchair does not by itself assign a scaling tier. Explore the Movement Modification Library and work with qualified coaching when needed.

Does Scaled training count as a legitimate score?

Yes—log the version actually completed and follow its instructions honestly. Training records can be useful at any tier. Competition leaderboards may apply separate scoring rules.

Is the 45–60 minute modified session another scaled tier?

No. It is an approved shorter full-session prescription when provided, listing each part as As prescribed, Modification with exact approved details, or Omit. Do not independently shorten or reweight the workout from this guide.

What if my gym doesn't have the correct equipment?

That's an equipment-substitution question, not automatically a scaling-tier question. Consult the Equipment Substitution Guide and keep the intended stimulus in mind; confirm any changed reps, loading or scoring.

Are CrossFit Open divisions the same as these full Sent tiers?

No. Official competitions set their own division, eligibility, movement and scoring rules for each season and event. A full Sent training tier does not establish competition eligibility or compliance.

Can I use pain as a reason to switch movements?

Do not train through pain simply to preserve a tier label. Stop the painful movement, seek suitable coaching or professional assessment, and follow approved safer alternatives where available. This guide is not medical advice.

Where do I find my exact workout version?

Open the specific training day and relevant part in TrainHeroic. That published prescription controls the exercises, sets, repetitions, loading, standards and score format—not the illustrative explanations on this page.
